So vague that when I left, instead of "we'll let you know when our decision is made" I was told to call them when I've made my decision. Now this job was to handle personnel, insurance, records, etc. In my experience with HR, you check the applicants background throughly before hiring someone to keep valuable paperwork of the employees. Not at Easlen. Now they are moving the office to Carmel? Failure is in the making. I also had an interview at Easlen a few years ago and agree that it was vague. In fact, you can make a good case that the root of the problem was back with John Young in the late 80's/early 90's when a non-hardware guy was hired to run a hardware company. Carly Fiorina was just the last in a series of bad moves on the part of the board, and was brought in solely to achieve the Compaq merger, which made the board a ton of money. After that she was expendable. Similar issues are apparent at Esalen: people running the company who are not committed to the core-competency of the company, but are positioning themselves for board membership and future pay. The most striking thing is how much it looks like a takeover which would result in a breakup of the company and a sell-off of assets. I wish you all the love in the world. They too are going through the same tumultuous changes and trying to redefine what Hollyhock is to become in the future and losing much of the soul of its path along the way. As someone of the "general public", it's sad to see the poor choice of subjects/classes and super high prices. "..in all things the supreme excellence is simplicity." And BAM!... There’s my report from the May 24th community meeting. I don’t post on Esaleaks. This was boosted. It appeared in several groups on Facebook, and on iThou. So everybody knows who I am. I don’t do things anonymously. If I have something to say, I take responsibility for it. However, I recognize that there may be situations where that ethic doesn’t apply. Esaleaks performs a needed function for those who are at risk. In any event, the update requested in the previous comment is that the Board, at its last meeting, refused to make the community representative a voting member. But I think Mac would surprise everybody. He's ready to play Henry V before the Battle of Agincourt. Listen... If you put him, David Price, John Murphy, Steve Harper and Chris Price in charge, our problems would be over in no time. Of course, that's not likely to happen... Is it? Overly optimistic in some instances, and some poor character analyses. Mac Murphy is not ready for any leadership role in the near future. Esalen will be led astray by the established power for years to come, unless halted in its tracks, stricken by some community uproar, or a major environmental catastrophe. Nice effort put into the writing. Old news that needs to be updated. Overly optimistic in some instances, and some poor character analyses. It echoes back to my days at Esalen where the kind of behavior demonstrated by the current administration was running rampant in the community as well. Taking clear and honest responsibility for actions seems to be taboo and these issues will only continue to rise to the surface until they are dealt with in a balanced approach. I'm very thankful for the voices of John and Mac Murphy who are invested in Esalen's future that involves the conscious evolution of everyone's process. Still, I agree with the writer of this entry...Esalen merely reflects the collective culture currently in place. I hope that through this very difficult period, Esalen will eventually find it's axis once again. Thank you for this very thorough and delineated entry.
