What you are describing is Esalen of old - guests did pay to be part of something special. In exchange, I believe something transformational happened, and they were the better for it. I support your solution, and sincerely doubt that the current administration would agree with our oversimplified approach to recovery. The "quqdruple bottom line" is really driven by the primary bottom line, money, and the new demographic is largely interested in being catered to. We ave been actively seeking this demographic through all of our recent marketing strategies. This is a very different situation here, reaching deeper and further into the dismantling of Esalen's Community than ever before. Why, would you think, that an insightful Board member like David Lustig would come to resign in protest? Further, why would our beloved Chris Price take such a powerful stand, as never seen before, if this wasn't something occurring without precedence at Esalen? That the staff are reactive, and venting on ESALEAKS anonymously, possibly the only SAFE resource they might have at this time, isn't, in my view, neither perceived as, quote from above: "viscous pointed verbal attacks, exaggerated statements ... childish tantrums" nor , quote: “stubborn children loudly stomping up the stairs and slamming the door” etc... but rather, a careless account of this writer’s deceitful undermining of their efforts. So the person writing the above appears completely out of touch with the true pain, suffering, and feelings of helplessness (I can only imagine) that our Community is enduring in the face of the current ABUSE of POWER from the HR, CEO & Co. : i.e. the ROOT of which the deeply troubling state of affairs is coming from. So we can carry on with our pointless analyses, explaining away all remaining reason, and keep on “TALKING ABOUT” the situation … while others, our tribe members, are actually suffering, or we can CARE to DO something about it. What will it be? What do you need Esalen Community? How can we help? From a loving Elder ...
